A Decade of Delivering Clean Water
From mobile potable water units for humanitarian organizations to large-scale industrial demineralization plants, GEC has successfully delivered water treatment solutions across Syria since 2012.
Mobile Water Treatment Plant — Damascus Governorate
GEC provided and installed a mobile water treatment plant in Damascus Governorate for Med Still. The system uses a Mobile Multimedia Filtration (MMF) unit for pretreatment — removing turbidity and suspended solids — followed by a Mobile Reverse Osmosis (RO) unit that removes dissolved salts and contaminants to produce high-quality potable water meeting WHO standards. Design and manufacture conforms to Syrian and EU health and safety standards.
Mobile Potable Water Unit — Al Salamiyah, Hama Governorate
GEC designed and installed a large-capacity mobile water treatment plant for Oxfam in Al Salamiyah, Hama Governorate. The fully containerized system allows for easy transportation, fast installation, and rapid deployment in remote areas. Using MMF pretreatment followed by RO purification, the plant produces safe drinking water to WHO standards — serving communities in one of Syria's most affected regions.
Industrial Demineralization Plant — Baniyas, Tartous Governorate
GEC provided and installed the water treatment system supplying high-purity demineralized water to the steam boilers of the Baniyas Thermal Power Plant. The three-stage process uses Multimedia Filtration for pretreatment, followed by Reverse Osmosis to remove dissolved salts and contaminants, then Ion Exchange to remove residual dissolved minerals (calcium, magnesium, etc.) — producing boiler-feed quality water that maximizes plant efficiency and protects equipment. All equipment is containerized for fast installation.
Mobile Disinfection Units — Eastern Syria
GEC supplied and installed mobile disinfection units using HTH calcium hypochlorite for the ICRC across the eastern region of Syria. The mobile units produce safe drinking water meeting WHO standards — providing critical water disinfection capability to communities in conflict-affected and remote areas. The system uses Mobile Multimedia Filtration for pretreatment followed by mobile RO purification.
Water Purification Plant — Damascus Governorate
GEC provided and installed a comprehensive water purification plant for the Conference Palace Complex and Ebla Hotel in Damascus. Beyond standard MMF + RO treatment, this installation includes a treated water disinfection system and pH adjustment system — increasing treatment efficiency and reducing the impact of contaminants to deliver premium-quality water for this high-profile hospitality venue.
Backup Chlorination System — Ein Al Tannour Water Pumping Station, Homs
GEC provided and installed a new backup chlorination system at the Ein Al Tannour water pumping station in Homs Governorate for the ICRC. The system purifies potable water using a 6% sodium hypochlorite disinfection system — meeting Syrian standard physio-chemical and biological parameters. An on-site mixing system prepares sodium hypochlorite 6% from sodium carbonate and calcium hypochlorite. A sludge drying basin with dewatering system was also constructed. The station has a design flowrate of 6,000 m³/h across two pumping lines — making this one of the largest chlorination projects GEC has executed.
